15 Jan 2007 - Cubs Newsletter

Winter Term 2007 Newsletter

You will be aware that Tuesday night cubs has now closed. All Tuesday night cubs have been invited to join Monday nights pack. If all Tuesday night cubs take up their place on Monday, the Monday night pack will have up to 32 cubs. To assist in future planning if any cubs cannot attend on Monday due to other commitments please advise a leader as soon as possible.

Baloo (Andy Evans ) has kindly volunteered to continue with his involvement with the Monday night pack. He will attend pack nights as often as he can. We now have three leaders;

Akela- Rick Wooller

Baloo- Andy Evans

Bagheera-Jill Bartlett

We will need parental support to assist with the pack nights. Please contact Alison Lloyd if you are able to help. Alison will be co-ordinating the parent support rota.

Due to leaders’ work commitments it is not always possible to be at the Scout Hut with adequate time to set up for the nights activities. Unless anyone has strong objections it is proposed that from Monday 22 January 2007  cubs will start at 6:45pm and finish at 8:15 pm. Times may vary during the early spring and autumn to maximise daylight hours. Any other time variations specific to activities away from the Scout Hut will be notified to you on the terms programme.

We are emphasising to the cubs the importance of maintaining discipline at pack nights. A set of rules have been discussed and agreed by the pack. Any assistance that you can give at home to stress the importance of keeping to the rules would be greatly appreciated and will lead to more enjoyable pack nights. The rules will be sent with each cub and be posted in the scout Hut.

We will also be inspecting uniforms on a weekly basis. Each cub will score points for their six. To score maximum points each cub should have a cub polo shirt, sweatshirt & well tied scarf and woggle. Anyone who has not got a coloured six woggle should advise a leader. The woggles cost £2.

We have re-organised the Six’s to reflect the amalgamation of the two nights and balance the three year groups which cubs encompasses. Anyone who has changed Six’s will be given a new woggle in exchange for their old one. Where a Tuesday night Sixer and Seconder has joined Monday as a Sixer and Seconder the role will be shared.

The CATVOG swimming gala heats are to be held on 11th February at Cogan leisure centre commencing at . The finals are to be held on Sunday 25th March at Cogan at

You may be aware that it is the Scouting Association’s centenary this year. We are considering undertaking the Centenary Challenge promoted by the Scouting Association. This will require each cub to complete up to one hundred challenges (may be scaled down), the majority of which will be outside the pack night. Further information will be provided over the coming weeks.

All cubs will be working on the Fitness Challenge this term. This will require fitness work to be undertaken over a six to eight week period outside of pack nights. A separate handout will explain this.

We hope this newsletter helps.
